Build something simple, then turn the dial to keep your city moving—faster, stronger, taller. Take on the daily Kickoff Challenge with your own kit of LEGO® bricks and Technic parts, motors, and sensors. Get your starter machine working, then upgrade it to beat each level and push for a new personal record during the Engineering Sprint. Team up with friends and your Guide at test stations, then roll what you learned into tomorrow’s brand-new build.

Example Classes this Session:
Extra-Tall Scissor Lifts: Build a one-stage scissor, then add stages, gear down for strength, and balance the platform to reach higher without tipping—hands-on linkages, gears, and center of mass.
Earthquake-Proof Skyscrapers: Create a tower core, then add bracing, base isolation, and simple mass dampers to survive a motorized shake test—real stability, load paths, and damping in action.

Class Structure:
Kickoff Challenge: Students start with the same simplified build while the teacher explains the mechanism and the day’s goal.
Engineering Sprint: After the first run, students are given added levels (heavier loads, longer spans, new gear ratios) to build intuition around the core learning. Students personalize their builds—mini versions, themed scenes, decorations—while keeping the mechanism working.

Team Collaboration: As kids progress, they are also given twists on later challenges that work with multi-student teams.

Skills Developed:
Learn biomechanical and motorized mechanisms that matter like gears, pulleys and belts, center of mass and stability, and more.
Students will learn the engineering design thinking process, from defining a clear goal, planning a simple first build, running a fair test and observing results, changing a variable, rebuilding, and explaining why the new version works better.

Awards and Accreditations:
Lando is a WASC-accredited program with multiple awards.
