Contest Update March 21, 2018

You talked and we listened. This is our first time hosting a calendar art contest. We based it on others we had seen sponsored by nonprofits online. However, we have learned some valuable lessons based on feedback from the community. It was never our intention to make a student feel bad about their beautiful submission. As such we’ve made the following changes in response to your feedback:

  • Removed the vote tallies from view on the website.
  • All of the art will be considered by our panel of judges when selecting the winners with a special acknowledgement to those who received the most votes online.

The intention of the online contest was to show the community the talent of our kids and to help us select artwork for a calendar fundraiser. We don’t want to lose sight of the talent of these students. Please continue to vote and give these students as much exposure as we can. They deserve it. Each and every one of them.

In January we invited all students within the Dublin Unified School District to draw, color, or paint “What makes you smile?” for our inaugural wall calendar art contest. The response has been amazing with 156 pieces submitted from students in Developmental Kindergarten to graduating 12th graders. Twelve of these drawings will be featured in our wall calendar which will go on sale in August at school registration. Our “What Makes You Smile” calendar is unique in that it coincides with the school year (August through July) and will feature the academic calendar for 2018-2019 as published by DUSD. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar will directly benefit student programs funded by our organization.

Online Voting Now Through April 6, 2018

Vote for your favorite drawings and then share them! Voting and sharing builds awareness for our programs, public education and local business, that is, our sponsors.

We are asking the entire Dublin community to help us identify our contest winners. All qualifying images are published on our website by school location and online voting will be available through April 6, 2018 through the links below and on the Calendar Art Contest page. As we did not receive an entry from all of our schools, there will be two winners named from Amador Elementary (they had the most entrants).

The top three (3) entries from each school site, based on online voting, will be presented to our panel of judges. Finalist’s drawings will be judged based on theme representation, creativity, drawing description, and artistic merit. The entrant with the highest overall score from all finalists will be deemed the Grand Prize winner. The school site winners will be selected from the remaining finalists.

There are no limits to sharing.

Sponsorship Opportunities for Local Business

To help cover the costs of calendar production and prizes for our winners, we have a limited number of sponsorship opportunities available. Ad space is available in the lower panel of each month. This is a great way to promote your business, cultivate the arts, and support public education. If you are interested in securing a month in our calendar for your business, contact Michael Utsumi for details: (925) 587-5612.
