Artificial Intelligence (AI) is all around us. Kids today already use AI in digital assistants like Alexa, in movie recommendations, and more. Future jobs of all kinds will require these critical skills. In this class, kids learn what AI is and learn how AI works and how it learns. They will learn about different AI algorithms and how to build, measure and improve them. They will build several AIs of their own including a custom project.
Our curriculum is designed by Ph.D. AI experts with many years of real-world experience. We make the concepts easy to understand, fun, and engaging for kids.
Parents - AI is a technology that is changing our lives and future careers. It is a great time to introduce your child to the field of Artificial Intelligence! In our innovative class - middle school students learn Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in a fun and accessible way and build working projects immediately. Most of our students want to learn more about AI programming and math even after finishing a class! Some have gone forward to win competitions! Spark a love of technology that will stay with them through to college, powered by our comprehensive Middle School and High School programs where they can continue to learn AI and Programming! With our innovative programs, hundreds of middle school students have built custom AI projects and many have gone forward to participate and win competitions and science fairs with their AI projects.
Kids - Would you like to teach an AI to play games like shooting targets or tic-tac-toe? Build fun AI apps that can predict your favorite book, favorite Pokemon, or sport? Are you passionate about solving problems in your community like improving recycling, helping the blind, or helping reduce bullying? All of these projects have been done by students who have learned AI! AI is powerful and easy to learn and can be used for all sorts of projects.
Curriculum
Students will learn what Artificial Intelligence is, how AI works and will build a custom project to train their own AI to solve a problem of their choice!.
Students will learn to build different types of AI - to detect and predict categories (for example whether a person is Happy/Sad or Child/Adult), to detect and predict values (such as teaching an AI to do Math). They will build AI projects to do each of these and learn the concepts behind them. Students will also do a custom project of their choice to build an AI system to solve a problem. They will showcase their project to their parents and peers on the last day of the class.
The core AI concepts students will learn are:
- How to identify different types of algorithms (classification, regression) appropriate for different types of problems and data (text, numbers, categories, and images).
- Train an AI system from raw data and use it to build cool applications.
- How to improve an AI with better data
- How to measure and tune the performance of different AI algorithms to make them better
- How the AI algorithms learn patterns and how to tune them
- How AI compares to rule engines (can I beat an AI by writing rules?), and when to use and not to use AI
- Difference between AI and Robotics.
Participants will:
Prerequisites - You need a computer and internet connection to participate in this class. No previousexperience is needed.
What Students Take Away

In this online class, students will practice different forms of art to create artful expressions and then bind their own journal. Students will explore their feelings through journaling to increase comfort with creative writing, to self-regulate, and for stress reduction.
For a young person, varying emotions can be intense. Channeling these feelings to build resiliency can be challenging. The act of creating has been proven to reduce physical and emotional effects of illnesses and to encourage self-expression, communication, social interactions and self-discovery. Pablo Picasso once said: “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” Art journaling is just one of many ways to wash off the dust of life. With an art journal, a child can create a safe place to explore their feelings without judgment, constraints or guidelines. The only limitations are a child’s imagination – and the size of the journal.
There will be two material pick ups. One prior to the first session and the second after the fourth class.
