We are offering a dynamic selection of courses available from Kindergarten through to 5th Grade.  Below is the list of courses we are offering at Amador Elementary.

Courses are offered 1 day per week up to 10 weeks. 10 hours of tuition.

Tuition - $189 - $210 per course.  

Each class that moves forward will generate contributions to the School, the Parent Faculty Club (PFC) and to the Student Council.

Actors' Workshop!

It’s laughter, learning and limelight with the After School Drama Club’s The Actor’s Workshop! Through a fun series of theater games, acting exercises and scripted scene work, this introductory acting class teaches the fundamentals of the actor’s craft. Students explore the “three tools of the actor” – voice, body and imagination – as they learn how to create characters, interpret scripts and perform for an audience. The class teaches true theater skills such as stagecraft, emotionally truthful acting, and professional theater etiquette, while encouraging creativity and inspiring the imagination. The class culminates with a free workshop presentation of scenes and monologues for an invited audience.

Calling all explorers! Let's adventure through the largest rainforest in the world ...the Amazon! This beautiful jungle habitat is full of amazing and fascinating creatures such as leaf cutter ants, red-eyed tree frogs, emerald tree boas, iguanas, howler monkeys, toucans, sloths, jaguars, macaws, blue morpho butterflies, and piranhas...OH MY! Grab your binoculars, your adventure cap, and let's learn about this far off, beautiful place and the fascinating creatures that inhabit it. Students will take away a "Rainforest Adventure Book" full of facts and a craft or art piece with each animal they learned about! It will be a jungle of fun!

An active, energetic, and diverse Bollywood Dance class that will focus on merging many different styles of dance into one, while encouraging students to build their confidence levels. Students will be exposed to Indian Classical Dance, Folk Dance, Bhangra, and Bollywood through choreographed dance pieces. Students will learn specific technique associated with each of these dance styles, including but not limited to what the hand gestures and steps are called, the meaning behind each gesture, and how to string it together in a fluid motion. Lessons will focus on understanding rhythm and how to hear the beats within each song.

Students will learn the true art of performance, with lessons on stage presence, facial expressions, and expressing emotions through dance! Students will build their knowledge on how to weave all the different forms of dance to create a choreographed piece. In addition, through BollyFusion dance classes, students will learn character traits like responsibility, passion, and hard work, while learning vibrant and entertaining dances.

Learn chess with Pacific Chess Academy!  This program is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to overcome obstacles, think strategically, and stay focused. Specifically designed for young players with various levels (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced), the course offers video lessons, easy-to-follow instructions, individual recommendations, and preparation to chess tournaments. The use of the modern technology (projectors, iPad, teaching software) makes the learning process easy, fast, and fun! All necessary equipment (boards and pieces, clocks, demo tools) provided. Participants receive certificates and trophies at the end of the school year. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a Chess Champion, this class is for students at all ability levels.

Contemporary as a dance style is a fusion of ballet, jazz, funk, and modern dance styles.  Contemporary dance encourages natural, spontaneous movement and focuses on self-expression, awareness of space and body movement, use of body weight, efficiency of muscle use, safe body alignment and strong use of Modern Dance technique. Classes start with a comprehensive warm-up focusing on improving flexibility, extension, core strength, and balance and gradually build up to contemporary steps and combinations that will consist of abstract movements combining modern and classical ballet elements. Students will learn how to express a wide range of emotions through their dance based on musical interpretation and individual style and using the contemporary dance form as a platform for creative self-expression. Classes emphasize technique, fundamentals and a familiarization of the dance vocabulary.  

Recommended Dress - Students must be able to move and stretch fully.  Footless tights, leggings, leotards, fitted dance shorts, fitted tops, t-shirts and athletic pants are ideal.  Medium or long hair pulled away from face in pony-tail, braid, or bun. No shoes, bare-feet.

Does your child love to write and use their imagination to come up with creative stories? Then this is the class for them! Through several different writing activities, we will explore possible ways to think outside of the box and get truly original ideas on paper! We'll experiment with character and plot development in ways that are unique and new from Painted Paper Stories to Squiggle Stories to What If/Prediction Stories and so much more! I can't wait to see what we come up with! This course is constantly changing, so whether your child has taken it before or is a new attendee, they are welcome to join in on the fun for a new and unique experience each time!

Reading is a skill and through reading, we can learn about anything and everything. The better you understand what you read, the better you will do in school, in your job, and in your life.  Students will read Fiction, Nonfiction and Informational text types to enhance their comprehension abilities and process content using higher level thinking. Students will work in peer discussion groups learning and perfecting skills in: identifying the main idea and supporting details, sequencing, relating experiences in a text with real-life experiences and events, asking meaningful questions in order to understand text, and answer questions about a text.  Together we will perfect comprehension skills in a dynamic collaborative environment while having fun and building confidence and motivation through reading.

Cells, nuclei, DNA oh my! Toy villages, lego space station, and castles are built by stacking layers upon layers of bricks and specialized equipment. But, did you know our bodies are too? Come discover our body's building blocks: cells and DNA. We will discover the functions of plant and animal cells, extract fruit DNA, and build a DNA ladder and learn about it's coding. We will create ink out of DNA and build an operational lung model!

Don’t just teach kids to count, teach them what counts most! Yoga for Kids develops the whole child, providing a solid base for a life full of curiosity, learning, and wisdom. In this course, your child will have fun practicing challenging poses, partner & group poses, and playing yoga games. Mermaids, Unicorns, Dragon Eggs, Magical Wands… we will explore it all in this multi-media art class.  We will work with all different types of materials including oil pastel, watercolor, fused glass, clay, sharpies, markers and maybe even some glitter to create some fun magical art.  Projects include building a castle and a magic want out of clay, creating your own watercolor dragon, and students will be able to choose between creating a unicorn, mermaid or dragon as their ceramic piece. Join us in this magical exploration through art.

This is an excellent advanced level course that reinforces presentation skills and builds upon basic strategies that students have learned. Students not only learn how to write creatively but also learn how to think critically and impact an audience effectively. We work on delivering descriptive and expository speeches, through powerful presentations. Students begin to conduct research on more current issues and learn to present their speeches with the use of PowerPoint, Charts, Diagrams and other Audio/Visual Aids. This course will help kids expand their general knowledge and formulate their thoughts with a clear and concise structure.

Our goal is to develop well-rounded individuals… and to give students with any level of prior knowledge a HANDS ON experience in each class!

Choose your favorite theme, from Minecraft to Fortnite!  

This class is online and offline, giving the students the ability to learn coding through Scratch and then uploading their projects to share.

These wheels are ready to roll! Students will use LEGO® Bricks, axles, pulleys, gears, and motors to build a variety of models on wheels. Some are familiar vehicles, such as a fire engine and delivery truck. Others are more spectacular, such as the Rescue Robot and K-9 Bot. Do you have a need for speed? Put your Speed Bot model to the test as your race against others using remote controls! We’ll explore concepts of speed and force, and gain non-vehicle knowledge from the unconventional Wheels in Motion models as well. Let’s roll!

Effective writing is one of the main sought after talents in the world and yet to write well is one of the most demanding forms of communication. Through this session of Writing Through the Genres, students will learn how to deliver messages with impact. Students will work on a variety of styles including opinion/ persuasive & argumentative writing. This session will help students learn how to clearly communicate their opinions, research data to strengthen support those opinion  and how to make counter arguments of others. We will also focus on claims, evidence, and reasoning as well as the technical parts of writing such as sentence form and grammar. This course changes session to session and year to year.

Participants will:

  1. Engage in learning activities that give them positive their confidence with writing;
  2. Develop strong grammatical skills
  3. Utilize technology to self-publish their works
  4. Become equipped with the tools to organize his or her ideas
  5. Edit his/her own work.
