A Story of ... A Passion for Public Speaking

Did you know that 75% of American citizens list public speaking as one of their greatest fears and 25% of Americans say it is their biggest fear in life?  In fact, the fear is so prevalent in our culture that there is a name for it, Glossophobia, which simply means “speaking anxiety.” This information is reinforced in study after study and the consistent cause of that anxiety arises from a person’s fear of embarrassment in front of a crowd of people in an unfamiliar situation.

When asked about their fears, most adults say they just never had much opportunity to practice public speaking skills while they navigated through school, so they are uncomfortable being in that situation. This is particularly surprising when so many career counselors list “effective public speaking skills” as one of the foremost assets of effective community and business leaders.

It is because of this skill gap, that the DPIE After School Program made the decision three years ago to partner with Gurus Education East Bay which specializes in helping students learn the necessary skills to become confident and persuasive presenters.

Help Us Make a Difference in 2019

As the educational foundation for the Dublin Unified School District (DUSD), we support programs which allow the 12,000+ students who attend the 12 DUSD schools to discover their potential, expand their classroom learning, and explore educational opportunities outside their textbooks. We succeed because of the generosity of our community and our programs are only limited by the amount we are able to raise.

There are five months left in the school year with a lot to accomplish and we are asking our community members to consider a donation to our organization which will directly support all DUSD students. With a minimum donation of $35 you will receive an "I am a Dublin Partner in Education" car magnet.

Michael Utsumi, our Funding & Programs Coordinator will reach out to each qualifying donor to make arrangements to deliver your car magnet.

$150,000 Technology Grant to the DUSD Schools

Mid-way through the 2019-20 school year, DPIE made a technology grant donation of $150,000 to the Dublin Unified School District for the purchase of technology to meet the needs of one of the fastest growing school districts in the state of California.  Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Matt Campbell, recently reported to DPIE that the funding allowed the district to purchase 540 Chromebooks and 15 Chromebook charging carts for Dublin Schools. To read the article - click here!
