We are offering a dynamic selection of courses available from Kindergarten through to 5th Grade.  Below is the list of courses we are offering at Amador Elementary.

Courses are offered 1 day per week up to 10 weeks. 10 hours of tuition.

Tuition - $175-$210 per course.  

Each class that moves forward will generate contributions to the School, the Parent Faculty Club (PFC) and to the Student Council.

Actors’ Workshop!

It’s laughter, learning and limelight with the After School Drama Club - The Actor’s Workshop! Through a fun series of theater games, acting exercises and scripted scene work, this introductory acting class teaches the fundamentals of the actor’s craft. Students explore the “three tools of the actor” – voice, body and imagination – as they learn how to create characters, interpret scripts and perform for an audience. The class teaches true theater skills such as stagecraft, emotionally truthful acting, and professional theater etiquette, while encouraging creativity and inspiring the imagination. The class culminates with a workshop presentation of scenes and monologues for an invited audience.

What do you want to be when you grow up?  On this adventure students will travel to Cool Careers Island© where they will get a taste of some of the world’s most exciting jobs from veterinarian to marine biologist to professional basketball player!  Students are faced with a captivating challenge as they travel to this unique “island” and work collaboratively in “tribes” using the Scientific Method to think critically about possible solutions to their challenge for the success of their “tribe”. Using variety of materials in their provided treasure chest and their boundless imaginations students will plan, design and create something special, free of technology, that fulfills the “islands” challenge requirements while giving them the freedom to drive their own learning outcome.
In this course students are provided with an enriched, fun-filled experience that develops lifelong learners and problem solvers.

Chess Academy for Kids

Learn chess with Pacific Chess Academy!  This program is a great opportunity for kids to learn how to overcome obstacles, think strategically, and stay focused. Specifically designed for young players with various levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), the course offers video lessons, easy-to-follow instructions, individual recommendations, and preparation for chess tournaments. The use of modern technology (projector, iPad, teaching software) makes the learning process easy, fast, and fun! The class is offered to grades 1 - 5. All necessary equipment (boards and pieces, clocks, demo tools) provided. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a Chess Champion, this class is for students at all ability levels.

Cooking Through Literature, Culture, And Science

Students will become introductory chefs as they explore the world and art of cooking through literature, culture, and science. This class changes in each session and we never duplicate recipes so each time you take this class you will learn to prepare something new and different. Students will learn the basics of cooking materials, collect recipes and notes through an interactive notebook (cookbook), and explore in basic recipes as well as seasonal specialties. Each class students will learn, cook, and taste/take home food and recipes related to cultural foods around the world, connected to literature and also explore how cooking is related to math and science. They will learn vocabulary, how to use certain items, food and kitchen safety and become junior chefs! Students get an apron and cookbook with all recipes and learning as well as certificate at the end of the two weeks. Not to mention, the kids get to eat what they make. Yum!

Elementary Beginner's Yoga

Want to be more flexible? Want to improve balance? Looking for a new way to feel more positive? Want to have some fun trying something new? Come try yoga with Mrs Starr in K3 at Murray.  This class is an introduction to yoga and will help you find strength in yourself through yoga poses such as downward dog, warrior series, crescent and more. You will also find inner peace through meditation at the end of the class.  Come find out what yoga is all about.

Exploring the Creative World of Art

Expression through the world of art enables your child show their creativity and imagination.  This class will provide students the opportunity to get in touch with their creative talents, while also learning different art mediums. Each week, students will learn new & various art techniques which allow them to express themselves in school, leisure, and life. Various mediums include: watercolor, acrylics, oil pastels, clay, origami, collage, drawing and more. Techniques include: mixing, blending, lines, shapes, form, etc. Students will create an art journal/portfolio for their work, notes and handouts. They will expand their creative sides and minds. Each student will be able to take home all works, journal and pieces by the end of the class.

In this Math Challenge class, students will practice math skills and learn new problem solving skills through hands-on games and activities and the use of technology. Most of the tasks will be open-ended. Students will be presented with a problem and will search for constructive ways of finding solutions. This might be through engineering as students construct a plan to solve a problem. It might be through drawing as they design their solutions. The tasks will be completed through the use of technology, teamwork, and thinking outside the box.

All Hands on Deck!  Come join us on our adventure as we explore the popular culture behind the life of a pirate.  Shiver me timbers, and batten down the hatches as our class will prepare to prevent a mutiny. Utilizing Lego Bricks, students will learn a little about engineering & architecture as they build and motorized pirate ship, a helm and an anchor.  Students will learn how to protect all their shipmates by building a launching trebuchet so they don’t have to abandon the ship.
