DPIE Joins Tri-Valley Organizations to Make the Holidays Brighter
The mission of the Dublin Partners in Education extends well beyond providing after school enrichment programs and promoting fundraising activities which support all our schools. The larger goal is to become part of the fabric of our community. In December, DPIE was granted a rather unique opportunity to help accomplish this endeavor.
Spearheaded by local faith and service organizations, a second annual Holiday Pop Up Shop was hosted by Pleasanton based Workday. The lead-up was a widespread effort to collect new/unwrapped toys that could be purchased in stores or online. One important distinction was that every effort was made to contact families in the Tri-Valley to participate. In exchange, local families were offered a safe and encouraging environment where they could select a holiday gift for their child.
As in the previous year, the primary drivers of the event were Blue Oaks Church, Valley Community Church and City Serve of the Tri-Valley. DPIE was invited to contribute its efforts in November and we quickly went to work. First, items were collected as part of a local group that conducts an annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. The majority of toys were collected at both the Dublin Unified School District office and through a one-week giving drive conducted at Amador Elementary School. The remaining gifts were donated by DPIE board members and foundation staff. In sum, almost 200 individual items were delivered to the Holiday Pop Up Shop on the Workday campus. It was a significant contribution as the total number of registrants was over 2,300.
Subsequent to the collection drive, the process of distributing toys occurred over two days in mid-December. Parents/guardians were required to pre-register to ensure that age-appropriate items would be available. It was a joyous event and an effort that was well worthwhile. DPIE would like to thank Blue Oaks Church and Workday for the opportunity to contribute to this important, yet heartwarming experience. We will look forward to participating again in 2019.
