Students create "painted paper stories" in Ms. Elizabeth Littlejohn's Creative Writing class. This course was one of many recently offered in DPIE's STEAM Afterschool Program. For a list of current courses and to enroll online, visit the Afterschool Program page. Enrollment in the Winter session of the DPIE Afterschool Program at Amador, Dougherty, Dublin, Frederiksen, Kolb and Murray Elementary schools is now open. DPIE began taking enrollments on November 1st and almost 300 Dublin families have already enrolled their children in one of the 41 innovative and hands-on classes being offered by Dublin teachers in the Winter classes.

10 Week Course Offerings

“We are excited about the courses we are offering Dublin families,” said DPIE Program Director, Rich Boschetti. “We recruit Dublin teachers to work in the DPIE Program by asking them to “Teach Their Passion” and they have the freedom to develop their own 10-week, one-hour per week course. It’s amazing to visit the classrooms and see what the kids are working on. Students are having fun while learning and teachers have the opportunity to introduce topics they don’t have the time to cover in their regular classrooms.”

“DPIE Makes All Things Possible”

The best part about this is the opportunity to be creative and come up with unique experiences that engage students in a fun, hands-on, multi-dimensional way. Molly McCrory, Amador Elementary Teacher

“It’s been absolutely wonderful to work in the DPIE program,” said Amador elementary instructor, Molly McCrory. “I have been part of their elementary school program from the beginning and have loved every second of it. I have been fortunate enough to teach a variety of units that allow myself and the kiddos to venture through time and space! The best part about this is the opportunity to be creative and come up with unique experiences that engage students in a fun, hands-on, multi-dimensional way.” “I of course love to do this in my kindergarten classroom,” said Molly, “but what I can do there is restricted due to time and resources. DPIE makes all things possible and I get to watch students have 'A-ha!' moments, see them have fun learning, and grow their passions in return! It certainly can make my teacher-heart happy! I am looking forward to working with DPIE for as long as they will have me. “

DPIE Gives Back

We charge competitive prices with other outside organizations, but what’s different about our program is that we donate the profits back to the school district. Mary Miller, DPIE Board Member

DPIE board member and parent volunteer, Mary Miller also offered praise for the program, “The afterschool program is great! Parents in the district told us they wanted more afterschool programs for kids and we are doing our best to fulfill that request. In these classes students have the opportunity to explore the world around them while enhancing their own skill-set. This all happens with certified instructors in a safe and nurturing environment on their home campus.” “We charge competitive prices with other outside organizations,” continued Miller, “but what’s different about our program is that we donate the profits back to the school district. As an example, DPIE is donating a total of $5,500 back to participating schools for the Fall program alone. We hope to donate $15,000 back to these schools by the end of the school year for their support of the program.”

A Variety of Classes to Choose From

Classes run the gamut from “Inventors Workshop & Electricity” to “Comedy Improvisation” to Clay, Ceramics & the Color Wheel.” To “Sharkology - The Study of Sharks” and there are many more great course offerings that have been developed by DPIE teachers. DPIE also offers financial aid to children of families in need in the district. Families who qualify for the school district's Free & Reduced Price Lunch Program may receive 100% financial support to participate in an Afterschool class.
